DDR Chipsets...

Back when the 845 chipset came out It was so confusing reading through all the posts trying to make a decision on what board & most importantly what memory. This was the reason I went with the 850e chipset. No brainer, get memory and plugin...that simple.

Now it's starting all over again. Everytime a new chipset is released with DDR memory the threads start building up. Is it me or shouldn't DDR memory be a standard by now?

Not too many people post with Intel Motherboards. Any Intel Motherboard owners (865/875) having problems with memory?

This is not a DDR or RDRAM thread bashing.

well, i think the rdram market was simpler because there simply wasnt as much competition, and it kinda stagnated. There were only a few memory manufacturers, and only one chipset that supported it. few choices meant adopting the technology fairly simple, but it also made for high prices and ultimately the failure of rdram to hold on in the market. ddr on the other hand, can be a complicated market to jump into, as you have said. however, there is a lot of development going on, and it is of course generally cheaper (although not always) than rdram.

just my opinion, but hope it helps anyway

Butch84,

Yeah, that was the case for rdram and I understand that. My confusion is dealing with DDR and Intel based motherboards. When the 845PE (I think that's it, using DDR333 mem) I had a hard time finding a board to recommend and memory based on all the compatiblity issues. Now its the samething with 865/75 motherboards. However I just read in Maximum PC about the Intel 875P motherboard and Intel made sure the board would be compatible with alot of memory manufactures. The Corsair came through with the best performace with this board. The intel board even allows for overclocking...Welcome Intel! I might recommend this board based on these.

Thank!
