😀 I am a happy boy today!!!! I just built and started up my first box.. all is going well.. this is the box and it is online as i type...ecsk7s5a 256 mb crucial unbufferred ddr.. when i first booted up only showed my 1600xp as a 1050 cpu.. looked in bios and was set to 100/100.. only other option in win 98 plus se is 133/133 or any comb of 100 and 133.. changed to 133/133 and it now sees it as 1400mhz which is correct.. my question is this.. what do i set the latency at?? there are 3 seperate line entries for them.. what do i set them for??? the options are fast on one thing t2,t6,and t7on another and i just dont know what the "T's" mean..the ram is pc2100 ddr my system is faster than any ive ever had but im not sure if its the cpu or if the ram is working as fast as it shoul.. Also am havin trouble gettin the onboard sound to work.. I know its a seperate issue but could use some help.... Thanx to all in advance

I'm not sure on the latency, but the computer booting up for the first time with minimum multipliers/frequency is pretty much par for the course. The idea behind that is to allow you to ensure the computer can handle less than its optimum load first before giving it the full monty.

Id say if you have Crucial ram, you should be able to set the timings to the highest, if you start to overclock, you might have to set them back to the slightly lower specs.
Congrats on a good first PC build

🙂 but thats what i dont know,,, what is highest t2 or t7???? and how will i know if im oc'ing.. the mobo is pretty limiting as far as oc'ing... and thanks for the congrats.. im tickled to death after all the threads on the ecs board.. been studyin on it for a few months

Make sure the onboard sound and I believe the gameport are enabled in the BIOS, reboot and when Windows detects it pop in your motherboard CD and point it to the appropriate file. You don't say what OS you have.

Below are the fastest memory settings:

DRAM Timing Configuration Ultra
SDR/DDR CAS Latency 2T
SDR/DDR RAS Active Time 6T
SDR/DDR RAS Precharge Time 3T
Auto Detect DIMM/PCI Clk Disabled
CLK GEN Spread Spectrum Disabled

Go for the gold and see how your rig runs. You can't hurt it. If you have problems back off the Ultra to Fast to Normal until you are stable.

windows 98 plus..SE and ill try all of your recomendations.. went to bios and changed ram settings... game port settings allow for ... disabled...201h...and...209h.. dont know what that means but those are the choices

Don't worry about the game port settings for now. If you decide to use a joystick in the future you can play with the two settings to see which one works.

i have the my crucial ram set to:
dram timings : ultra
CAS 2.5 (latency)
and the t's are as low as they go.

i have obsolutely no problem.
and on a side note, if you have a gainward geforce 3 powerpack !!! golden sample we have an identical system/
