To be honest I know very little about DDR and I have just gotten into overclocking.

I just ordered an EPOX 8k5a2+ and a XP 1600+ AGOIA from newegg. I intend to overclock, but I don't know what DDR to get. From what i've read here, it looks like I should get Samsung "TRUE" 2700, but i'm not sure. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey LyNx01!

You got a nice mobo and a good CPU chip for OC! :) Congrats!
The memo I say get either the Original Samsung with the CTL-CB3 markings or the Corsair XMS3200C2, I think this is the Corsair that Thugsrook is using. The Corsair is a pretty good overclocker too.
About the other brands, I got Mushkin PC2700, works pretty good, but couldnt make it to run @ 166 Mhz yet. Since I got a KT266A mobo. Crucial, Musking, seems to be very good memos. Just OCZ seems to be a lottery, some will work fine, some are piece of junk. I dont know anything about GeIL PC3500 though.

Good luck on ur OC! ;)

ok I hope its helps
your CPU runs at a FSB of 133 (10.5X133=1.4Ghz) DRR also runs at 133(133X2=PC2100) if you overclock you FSB to 166 then your CPU would be a 1.74Ghz (10.5X166=1.743Ghz) and your DDR would run at 166 also...(166X2=PC2700)...Is its helping? I hope...so if you are planning on overclocking your CPU to a FSB of 166 get some good PC2700..if you plan on going higher than 166 get some DDR that runs higher...

C2 Latency isn't required for doing the 1600+ clock to FSB 166 mhz as long as you have PC2700 right?

Anyone else? All opinions are welcome.

Also, where is the best place to find Corsair or Samsung ram?

Also, where is the best place to find Corsair or Samsung ram?
googlegear.com has very decent prices for both, but to get genuine samsung (true), i would go to newegg.

:)

My opinion:

You're better trying some cheap RAM and once you get the hang of it..
GO OC!

Cheap RAM ?
Don't EVER waste your money on CHEAP RAM ! Your entire computer posts up through the memory, and there's a pantload of crap out there, that is NOT that much less expensive than the Quality product. Why would you want to pay for something twice ?
Good RAM has lifetime warantee, and the only risk is to the user in a serious overclocking senerio. Very few Mobo's have voltage settings that exceed the upper RAM
voltage parameters anyway, there are a few, but GOOD memory has a cushion.

So many people are complaining about how their computers won't post, or crash, malfunction, don't run fast enough, etc. - more than half of their problems are RAM related.

You can even buy direct from CRUCIAL and get a 10% price discount AND free freight.

NewEgg sells SAMSUNG at a great price also. These are the best products out there. Even the high priced 'Overclocker Specials' are using Samsung chips to make their stuff.

There are a scattering of 'OTHER' chipsets out there, but Crucial and Samsung produce over 75% of the RAM chipset for home computers.

'Generic RAM' - where do you think they get their chipsets? Product line seconds from the big chipset manufacturers, so why buy the 'seconds' when the Prime product is
just a bit more, and you don't take the risk of poor quality.

I would never buy cheap generic ram because it's just a waste of my money. I ended up ordering the Samsung pc2700 from newegg. I read the "clue to pc2700 ram" that you linked me to, which verified what I had gathered from other posts in here: most of the good ram out there is running samsung's chips, and samsung isn't going to send their best chips out to another company. Thanks for the help guys.
