DDR 800 Question...

Well, I just purchased a new PC which came with 3gbs of RAM... 2x1024, ad 2x512. I plan on upgrading to 6gb, but I wanted to know if the 2x512 could be sold for any small amount at all...I just want to attempt to recoup some of the money that I'm spending on the 4gb kit. Any help on approx. price is greatly appreciated, thanks!

If you want to know what something is worth, do the legwork and research it.

Google CPU-Z and download it. Go to the section under memory and it should tell you exactly what type of memory it is. I'm guessing you could sell it for $20ish.

If the 2x512MB pair is poor quality, chances are the 2x1024MB is also poor quality, probably the same brand. If you buy a decent 4GB kit it will only run as fast as the slower stuff.

Also, if you aren't running a 64bit OS, there is no point in more than 4GB cause your OS can't use.

You will not see a major difference in performance between 4GB & 6GB RAM, I'm back & forth quite a bit, and other than superfetch caching more stuff, I don't feel any difference. Also, I don't like having all 4 slots filled, I need to raise my NB and RAM voltage, and my motherboard and the RAM run a lot hotter.

Just something to think about.

Since I already bought the 4gb kit (a nice OCZ one from ZZF), does it make sense to try to sell all the ram and just keep the 4gb in there?
