DDR - 640mb pc2100 or 512mb pc2700 ?

Quick question - have 128mb of pc 2100 in a new xp 1700+ system i just built. I'll
mainly be using it for media work (mpeg encoding with tv tuner, etc)

My question is - would i be better off buying an additional 512mb of pc 2100 (total 640mb)
or is 512mb pc2700 a much better bet? (theory being i could use the 128mb 2100 stick again)

TIA!

you might be able to run the pc2100 at 2700 speeds
have you tryed that ?

also if yur fsb speed is not in sync with the mem at pc2700 speeds then there is little benefit
i would get the pc2700 regardless of what you decide to do, it can always be underclocked if you want the extra 128mb stick in there and can't get it running at pc2700 speeds
also if you get the pc2700 stick yur have a faster stick of memory for future use

I'd rather leave the speeds 'stock', as it were. I wont be overclocking the processor
or anything for maximum stability.

Actually, i havent thought of it, but does the processor relate much to the RAM speed i can run?
(not much experience with AMD machines)

Its and Asus A7V8X, XP 1700+ @ 1467 (normal). If i put 512mb of pc2700 in it, it will work, right? 😕

Thanks for the help!
