ddr 4400.. is it worth it?

wow ddr4400, crazy speeds... but is it really worth the cash? ocz has a gig on newegg for about 350. The timing are pretty crappy but i heard that these are no longer an speed issue with the a64 systems?

I wanna get some good ram to overclock with, but im not exactly sure how far i need to go with speeds. Is 3700 good? or should i go 4000 etc etc. Thanks for the advice.

I was just pondering the same question a few weeks back. I have been running HyperX PC4000 (2x512mb) in my P4 system which only would hit 460mhz since the chip was holding it back with no multiplier or reversed ratio like 2:3 or 4:5, so I could never use all of its speed.

I just purchased a AMD 64 3200+ and purchased the Epox 8KDAj($99) board which uses the Nforce3 chipset with a AGP/PCI lock allow for high front side buses. I ended up getting another set of HyperX PC4000 for it thinking at least it will be plenty fast for my highest overclocks. I dropped my multiplier to 9x and was able to raise my bus to 278 stable at 1.65v. Which is basically 2.5ghz. I have ran prime95 for a couple hours and it runs fine, my cooling is excellent, modded 92mmtorando(92mm hollowed out spacer between heatsink and fan) and SLK948. My temps in a cool room are 30c CPU and 28c Case with Motherboard monitor. My CPU temps are never than 6c higher than case temps. Great coooling.


Sorry got off subject, no PC4000 is not a waste with Nforce3 chipset since it has a AGP/PCI lock. My 500mhz Pc4000 memory is running at 556mhz, so yeah at least PC4000.

very much so it helped. I havn't heard great things about kingston (not that theyre horrible), are there any other really good high speed ram chips out there?


And i also have to get another motherboard before i can overclock much =\. I HATE the via chipset

one more thing, would you suggest that epox board to overclock, than any other nforce board? (money is no object)

other fast rams are corsair xms, kingston hyperx, mushkin lvl 1, ocz, pmi turbo, and etc. epox hasnt been doing very well lately in the mobo industry, so i wouldnt really recommend them. i would only go with abit, asus, or dfi if i wanted to do overclocking, but thats just me. other brands may work just as well, but its all about stability over long term.

Anandtech testing has proven that raw speed provides better performance than tighter timings. So if your can run your memory at a full 600mhz, then it will be better than 400mhz memory running with tighter timings.

This is my 3rd Epox board. 1 VIA 333 , 1 Nforce2 and now the Nforce3 250. I like them alot, cheap with all you need to overclock. Only reason I would say go with the other brands is there is more support for them. It is important to get a board that alot of others use so you can find people to help with fixes on weird odds and ends problems. Luckily my system is running perfect right now, now I just have to fix my laptop and my old Abit IS7 ide/sata combo issue. It never ends I tell ya...

And for that HyperX memory, the ONLY reason I purchased both sets is because I get them for 129$ a stick, thats all. And I figured I will run 2gb of memory later with my server once its up and running so I will just combine the HyperX onto my Abit board and by then I will be upgrading again so will need the latest and great memory.
