DDR 400 2 x 256 vs 2 x 512 for Win XP Pro?

Building a budget pc for a relative and want to save them some cash. I know that more memory is better than less....blah blah blah. It will only be used for minor photo editing, internet surfing and word processing. Will I notice a difference in speed if I use 2 x 512 vs 2 x 256? I am using an old Winchester 3000 socket 939 and will run dual channel either way.

Any opinions?
 
I think you should go for the full gb of ram. XP is a resource hog and the more you have I think the smoother all will be for you.
