DDE SERVER

What is "DDE SERVER"? I am running windows 98 on a msi k7t pro2-a Duron 700. Every time I shut down, it gives the infamous "Program not responding error" The program is "DDE SERVER" or something like that. Does anybody know what "DDE Server" is? I can not find anything about it. It is not in any of my start-up files either. Thanks for your help.

A DDE server is a Direct Data Exchange, if I remember correctly.... it should be doing something akin to embedding a Excel document in a Word document... but far older technology. DDE has been replaced by OLE, which shouldn't have that problem.

If you can give the exact error message, more help might be forthcoming.

Okay, please do one little thing first:
Restart your system, and then shut it down as soon as it finishes booting, and see if the error comes up. If it doesn't, the error is rooted in some program you usually run. If it does come up...

Go to Start/Run, type in MSCONFIG

One of the tabs is "Startup", if I remember correctly. From that tab, eliminate items on a one-by-one basis, and reboot each time, and see where the program gets loaded.

well, I did close each one of the tabs, but I had already done this before you told me so. All I have running is my mouse and my volume tab. I think that this error has something to do with Active X because I ran Norton System Doctor and it keeps finding Active X errors. Im going to try to install the latest versions, but I already have the latest version of IE 5, shouldnt that already have the latest version of active x already installed in it?

Also, do you know about video card errors? I am using a diamond monster 3d 2, and it says the device works fine in the device manager, yet when I try to right click on my desktop and go to properties, it gives me 2 errors, one says "Monster 3d II Not found" another one says "OCELL Failed to load" or something like that...It gives those two errors only one time. Then any other time I try to right click and click properties it does nothing. Do you know anything about this? Thanks.
