DD-WRT Xmit Power Question

I have the Buffalo whr-hp-54 and I was wondering what a good xmit power would be for it, since it has the built in amplifier. I remember reading somewhere that it should be put around 10 mW, but I wanted to get other users opinions.

So what I want to know is how safe would I be to increase the xmit power to say 15 or 20. That article doesn't say anything about that.

There is No point to change the power since the additional RF amplifier would adjust and would maintain the same out pu

Hmm, thats strange. Because when I change it from 10 to 20 I seem to notice I get better speed and a better connection also. It is significant too, signal goes from 18 Mbps to either 24 or 36. The signal goes from Poor or very poor to usually good. I'm just worried about overheating.

There's a very long thread on this topic on the DD-WRT forums. Note that the behaviour of different firmware differs in this respect. What's true for native isn't the same as for DD-WRT v23 SP1, which isn't the same as for DD-WRT SP2.

From what I gather, SP1 didn't know about the HP, and so you had to be careful with the output power setting on that one. On SP2, you can bump up the power, and some suggest 84 for a practical max, just as with the non-HP version.
