DD-WRT - Tomato - Asus52gu = Needs some help please.

So I got tired of this POS Asus software and week wireless signal.
So I went here and used this guide.

http://www.society9.com/an-easy-guide-to-installing-tomato-on-the-asus-520gu/

Everything worked great till I went into the Firmware Upgrade in DD-WRT.
I D/L the file below and everytime I try and upload it threw the Firmware Upgrade in DD-WRT it says it failed? I used this file here "Tomato_1_27_ND.7z" and also thought I may have needed to add the .bin on the end of the file now looking like his "Tomato_1_27_ND.7z.bin" but still fails?

Tomato_1_27_ND.7z (3MB)
SHA1: 76f09a2ab668dc77b2f548a4ed45c009d0c56cd4
» Use this for WHR-G125, WL520GU.
» May not work with some routers, use extra caution.
» See NOTES above.

Can anyone tell me what Im doing wrong please to get the Tomato file to upload? So right now I guess Im just running DD-WRT.
Can anyone tell me what the option is in DD-WRT to boost you wireless signal making it stronger as well? Next lets say I want to try and upload the tomato file again. Can I just do it by remoting into the router while its connected to the modem. Or do I need to hook the modem stright back up to my PC again and upload it?

Thanks!

The difference Between Tomato and DD-WRT is in mainly in features.

If you use the regular features, there is No real difference in performance between the two.

There time of "Dragons and Merlin" is over long time ago.

While Tomato and DD-WRT let you boost a little the Wireless there is No magic solutions for environmental variables or wrong use of the Wireless.

May be if you bother to explain in technical terms what you are doing with the Wireless and what exactly you trying to achieve, and perceive as wrong, someone can help you.

In addition, log to the Tomato and DD-WRT site they have instruction there how to flash in different situations.

LOL thanks guys I guess i didnt know the .7z was a file that needed to be uncompressed first. grin

JackMDS, I get a VERY weak signal upstairs and from reading around this flash is suppose or though wold give a signal boost. Thanks for the links!

If the signal is marginal the little boost might put it into functional.

Otherwise you need to use other means to increase coverage.

Like a second Wireless Router with cable, or WDS setting in the middle of the way.

First,
you should try TFTP for flashing the firmware if it doesn't work for you after you uncompressed the .bin file.

Second,
if you need a stronger signal get a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54. They aren't very $$$ and they are a nice piece of hardware with signal amplifiers built in that also work with Tomato.
