I am dumping my netgear WGT624 and thinking of getting another router running DD-WRT

1. What router would you recommend? I have narrowed down my selection to Buffalo WHR-GP-G54 or Linksys WRT54GL. Thoughts?

2. Anyone ever use the VLAN function? Does it work?

3. Anyone ever use multiple SSID with these? Can you broadcast with both WPA and WEP with the different SSID?

Thats it for now. Just read lots of stuffs on wiki and geek pages. Seems that this router will do most of the stuffs I need :)

Thx !

After you flash there is No firmware differences and both would have the same capacity.

The Buffalo Hight Power would provide better range.

I am running the Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT.
I don't think that multiple SSIDs is available quite yet. I believe that is coming in a future version (maybe a beta right now??)

Personally, I wouldn't run a beta on a new router. I'd just get a second router and plug it into the first for a different SSID with different security.

Thx for the info. I bit the bullet and ordered Buffalo WHR-G54S for $39.99 from newegg last night.

Yes the VLAN thingy is only currently available in their beta firmware.

Running different SSID with different security on the same Internet router backbone would not be a 100% solution as it is still sharing the same VLAN as my other devices.

we'll see how this router goes. dd-wrt seems pretty fun to play with.

I have the feeling that the DD-WRT people are driving themselves to the edge of the cliff.

It starts to get to a point that is like trying to turn an Austin Mini Copper to a Snow Shoveling vehicle.

There is so much that you can put on this puny Devices before it would start to cave in.

I have two of the G54Ses running DD-WRT. I like them a lot so far, but I haven't messed with many of the features yet.
