Ok, must admit I am a sucker for combat sims and just couldn't help myself and picked up DCS BlackShark on Steam for $5.

What I did find out that if you buy this, you can buy the upgrade for BlackShark 2 for half the price of new. Just need to run the first one once and then DL the second and your good to go. A pretty decent savings.

Planning on testing out this for $5 first and then see if I want to spring for the upgrade.

Curious if anyone has any feedback on the game? Did I just waste $5? Will I prove to myself that I have no business in a sim of Russian heli ?

What say you all?

The DCS series is top notch. Even if you don't decide to get BS2, you made a great purchase. Just keep in mind that this is high fidelity sim so half of the satisfaction people get is learning all of the various aircraft systems and simply becoming competent at flying the aircraft. Blowing stuff us is a bonus! haha

If you become interested in DCS, check out DCS World. Its a free download and you get a free aircraft to use. Other than that, DCS A10 and DCS P51 are both excellent.

A hotas setup and Track IR system are highly recommended. :D

I didn't even know about this one. I have wanted a great WWII prop fighter sim for a long time.

The only downside is there isn't any kind of WW2 campaign to go with it for now. Otherwise, the P51 is completely modeled with everything in the cockpit functional as well as weapons. I'm sure this will be updated as DCS World matures and more WW2 aircraft are released.

In other news, other DCS modules in the works by third party developers. The F-15E, F-22, and F-14D by IRIS Simulations and MIG-21Bis though I forgot the developer. I believe Eagle Dynamics are currently working on the AH-64 but I can't confirm that.

It's a great time to be a fan of combat sims!

IL2 Series is the way to go
With all the add-ons and the community made patches it is still top of the heap.

Many nights playing full real trying to find a carrier to land on after booming and zooming on zero's
Might have to reinstall

Damn..the price for BS2 upgrade is now $30 bucks...that's a lot for a patch to the original.

Still haven't managed to pick up pedals, but once I do, BS2 is probably first on my list of flygames to try.
Much more interested in helis than fixed-wing craft for some reason.

I should have gotten it when I had the chance. Their games rarely go on sale. The ka 50 is a pain to fly but it's the whole different learning curve that I like. Plus users have made interactive training missions for bs 2 so it will be easier to get into than flaming cliffs or the a10.
