DCOPserver error with kde (mandrake 8.1)

After installing mandrake, the first time running KDE I got an error message saying:

"Error setting up inter-process communication for KDE. Message is: Could
not read network connection list /root/.DCOPserver_dan.san.rr.com_:0 please
check that dcopserver is running!"

So I did what it said and opened up a terminal and ran dcopserver and got an error message saying the dcopserver self test failed and an error having something to do with ?ice? I was having problems before in getting my internet connection to work so I thought I would just leave this out on a new installation. I reinstalled mandrake 8.1 without setting up a network or network Internet connection, and everything worked perfect!! But after running the netcofing and setting up an Internet connection the error message came back after reboot and kicks me back to a logging prompt. My Internet connection works fine though.

Now KDE will not run at all, and will put me back to a command prompt after displaying the error message. I can run gnome but I get a different error message (wish I had wrote that one down now). When gnome does start up almost all of the applications do not work and give various errors some referring to ??klunker??

I have done a search on goggle and have found that this is a common problem with a lot of people, but I haven?t found any solutions to it. The only thing I have found is a reply saying to delete a file called config.bak in the ?mv~/.kde/share/cofig~/.kde/share/cofing.bak?

Another reply was from someone using kde-2.2.1 on a Solaris server and they suggested to change the permissions of the directory /tmp/.ice-Unix and to manually change the file permissions to 1777. After changing the file permissions then never run kde as root.

The only thing that I can think of that may be the problem is when I set up my Internet connection with DHCP I did not tell it a host or domain name. I just configured it to use dhcp and my Ethernet card ?eth0? but when I booted up it recognizes my host and domain name that I have set up in windows ?dan.san.rr.com? which I never supplied it and don?t know how it got it. I just know that everything worked fine until I set up my connection to the Internet.

I hope someone can help
