DC spending $200M to renovate their main library and will take 3yrs

Did you even read your own article?

"When German-born architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe presented his designs for the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in February 1966, D.C. Public Library director Harry Peterson said, "This is the most functional, the most beautiful, and most dramatic library building in the United States, if not in the world."

"Already, the project has been approved by the National Capital Planning Commission, the Historic Preservation Review Board, and the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts."

Why tear down a historic structure that is an architectural work of art?

200 million is plenty if you dont contract with greedy people

--It's an architectural landmark
--200 million could easily be shaved away from King Dipshit's security detail and travel budget with his family spread all over the place for no reason and traveling for vacation and golf every fucking weekend.

I especially love
Since then, the library has been neglected due to limited funds, resulting in broken water fountains, out of order elevators, and missing ceiling tiles.
because ceiling tiles are always impossible to replace?

Basically, they refuse to allocate any $ to a basic maintenance. But they got $200mil in capital expenditures... so they'll neglect this newer building to fleece the taxpayers ofDC all over, again.

And elevators? Drama much? It's not like they tear down and rebuild the Empire State Building every 40 years because the elevators break.
