You'll probably want something like what you'll find on this page: http://www.mini-box.com/DC-DC

You'll need a special power supply that's automotive friendly. I've seen some that are made to directly connect to a PC, where as the setup on the page above looks like you'd then feed the DC output into a picoPSU.

No. You need a DC to DC power supply that is made for use in cars, basically something with wide voltage input. In that Mini-Box link, it specifies which ones are suitable for car use. Basically the PSU needs to be able to run at both above and below 12v, as in-car voltage will vary.

For that particular setup. It basically takes power from your automotive battery and spits out a clean 12V rail. You'd then use that to power a standard DC power supply that needs a clean 12V rail.

Did some looking, there's a better setup here: http://www.logicsupply.com/products/m3_atx

Connects directly to your vehicle on one side, and to your PC on the other. Nothing else needed. Better IMO for what you're probably looking to do.

Use an inverter to get 110 ac and then use a standard power supply. If you want DC to DC try looking on some of the Mini-ITX websites.
