I don't run any DC clients on my business client's workstations, but might consider trying it on a Windows Home Server box, tucked away in a corner somewhere.

Has anyone beta tested? The trial version isn't out yet afaik, but somebody may have tried a release client.

(ps, yes, I know that a Linux box could do some of the same things, but I failed stupid on Linux :( and am no longer interested in learning. (something about old dogs and new tricks).

Hi,
I tested WHS (Windows Home Server) since a very early stage. I've been running both BOINC and F@H 24/7 on it without problems. The advantage is that it is based on Windows Server 2003, so everything works fine. I'm very satisfied with the OS, it has great features and runs efficiently (doesn't use much RAM when idle).

Feel free to ask me more details, my test box is sitting next to me :D

I'm thinking about putting WHS on my file server. I have a gaming rig and a laptop, too. My wife sometimes uses the file server for editing video, photos, etc and uploading them to the internet. Can't we just store the files on the server and allow our friends/neighbors access to them?

bryanW1995, per the AT pre-review of WHS, you should be able to share files with friends/neighbors. My IP Provider says I can't run a Web Host but if I put WHS in my house, it is very likely that I'll do some limited file sharing.

Philippart, that is exactly what I hoped to hear. These two business owners are very excited about streamlining their file backups and the potential safety of multiple drives in an array. I won't need to make nearly as many visits to their stores (less money for me :( but I don't really do it for the money. I'm not really sure why I do it. Must be the employee discount and annual Christmas party. :) )
