DC motherboard dead, need(ed) new one !!!

Problem solved with the help of DanC. Thanks for the suggestions, too!!

One of the local businesses I support has lost a motherboard. They are financially "thin" so I would like to replace just the MB/processor if at all possible.

The problem? It is an AT case, and it is getting hard to find them - at least I've had problems.

So, I'll check here. Since it will be running RC5 or OGR 24/7, it is a TeamAT problem.

So, does anybody have a used PIII-450 or Celeron-450 or Athlon-450 (did you get the "450" part???)
lying around, needing a home?

I've got SDRAM available, so that isn't a requirement, but I'd buy it populated if available.

PM me. Help!

ps, the PC is used solely for their employees to surf the internet over their DSL powered network (JonB installed, of course) so it will have lots of idle CPU time for DC.

I could be mistaken, but I don't recall Athlons or Durons having speeds under 500 MHz.

I'll take a look at what I have when I get home(6pm EST).

EDIT: Sorry - no AT boards of any significant speed here. 🙁

Do everybody a favor and replace the case with an ATX, IIRC even at the switchover it was almost impossible to find slot 1 AT MB's.

That could be, Networkman. I was just not looking for (sorry, ViRge) an old 266 Cyrix hottie.

The old motherboard had a K6 on it, not very fast, and I'm looking for a combination "fix and upgrade."

Anybody know of any AT motherboards still in production? (other than server class)

and, Hellburner, I my end up with a new ATX regardless. Gotta do something soon.

Yo -

I've got a couple of ASUS K7T Pro (Ver3) boards with Duron 600's available.
Darned solid combo IMHO.

They will O'C' up to about 945 stably, or run at default (your choice)
PM for details if you're interested.

got some great blade upgrades. BladeThey plug in to any isa slot and come with video, lan and usb. Plus a 1.2gig PIII Tualatin with heatsink/fan and 128megs of ram.
all you do is plug it in to a pci, connect your atx or at power supply to the blade. Then plug your floppy, HD and CDRom to the blade. Basicly it replaces your motherboard, memory, cpu, video card, lan card all in one swipe.

Oh yea the best part was last time I talked with Herb it was only $250.00 for the Blade!!!

Was thinking about doing that to my old 486dx66 I keep kicking around but it does very well running seti queue. Now if that worked with my Commodore SX-64😀

Did a little digging and found something else interesting on that PowerLeap/Blade product:

From the FAQ:
"As long as the computer has a PCI slot, the Renaissance/370S will work in it."
"Elsewhere, your site states that it requires an ISA slot. I was wondering which one is correct?"

Answer:

"A Renaissance is a fully integrated motherboard, so all you really need to get it working is a power supply. The Renaissance fits into an ISA slot, but this slot is not really needed... it is just used as a holder. Sorry for the confusion,..."

So you don't even need a motherboard in the case - an interesting solution for those looking for a whole computer in a very tight space. 😉

<--- mouth hangs open at the Rennaisance/370S! :Q

Video output, is that accomplished with a separate jack in another slot, or ???

/me bets networkman is eyeing old AT cases in his basement in a whole new light all of a sudden... 😀

Yep the video is on a header that plugs into the card. Same as the sound and extra usb. Very cool solution and the price wasn't bad at all.

I like this idea better though because I'm CHEAP😀

ECS K7SEM266 $55 shipped
Athlon XP-1600 $66 shipped
PC133 64meg $11 shipped
300w power supply $15 shipped
Floppy $5
CPU fan $10

Floppy version of seti from this site

linux floppy install

For a grand total of $162 and should be good for a work unit every 4 to 4.5 hrs. Now to convice the wife I need 10 in the basement
