Wow Greg. Your post triggered out of lurkdom. 😛 Hope you all have a great trip. That's some beautiful country over there and you seem to have it timed for when the Perseid Meteor Showers are due. Have been in Colorado myself around the same time and it was fantastic! Only thing is that this year, there's supposed to be a full moon during the peak, but you may be able to catch quite a show just a few days before.

I no longer live in the northwest, BUT

if you go through Wyoming, please make the side trip to Thermopolis, they have some
wonderful natural hotsprings, wnd one or 2 places where you can soak in a hottup fed with the water, swim in a pool of it, or sit in a steamroom fed by them.
and as a bonus it is within a short drive of some cool Native american Petroglyph carving sites.

my 2¢

Thanks for the travel tip, zaph. 🙂

That sounds a lot like Hot Springs, Arkansas. I appreciate any and all travel advice (tips) for I will be checking this thread (and the others) each night I can gain access to the web.

Did I mention I installed AOL on my notebook? Ugh 🙁

Taking advantage of a FREE 45 day trial because they do have the most POP sites around the country. :Q

I have already committed myself to reformatting the hard drive when I return to "clean" it up.

Ha LOL

Too bad you won't be able to post here with the aol account.

I think I'll be able to post here. I will be accessing the web with the AOL dialup service but my account here is registered to my regular BellSouth account. 😉

Heck, I'll just give it a try right now and see for sure. 🙂

Dang it, James, you are correct. :|

Well, there is a 800 number I can use for BellSouth for $8.?? and hour. So to pester all of you I will have to go that route. 😉 🙂

Sorry greg but they block all aol ip addresses. but you could use one of the millions of earthlink cds that have a 30 day free offer.

I hope you have a great trip Greg, I've sent you an email with my address & phone number.

/me waves back at ma buddy. 😀

Yeah, I like meteor showers and they are great out west when you're up in the mountains! It's like you can really touch the sky (per John Denver...LOL)

Yeah, (un)fortunately, they block all AOL IPs from posting here due to some idiot that went on a huge neffing/abusing spree, and AOL wouldn't help track the person down...so they blocked *.aol!

Have a safe trip, and if you take a wrong turn and end up somewhere in the vicinity of London, then let me know! 😉

Another Poof sighting :Q

You ok doing the weekly stats thread?
(me can't miss my favourite stats😉

Sorry, Mark! I just noticed this. I've been traveling. If I put up a thread every time I catch a plane or go on a long drive I would be monopolizing the forum 🙂

Anyway, I offered to help Greg with this. This coming Sunday it will be late as I will be driving from Ft. Smith, AR., to back Shreveport, LA. But, I'll get it as soon as I get in.

/gotta add a "Hi Poof!" to this!!

Oh, and to answer the question, not much. still looking for a job, have an interview tomorrow for a part-time PC/telephone installer for a big office move.

Went out to south central Washington 2 years ago for the Perseid shower. My son thought we were nuts leaving home near midnight.

When the show started the sky was dripping fire. Continuous streaks of light and occasional brilliant flashes of the bigger meteors. One of the unforgetable nights! Seeing a meteor shower like that makes one understand the ancients awe.

Lots of dark places around here to see stuff like that.

When you're planning a trip to the midwest (Iowa), let me know. Your grandson would be delighted to see you😀

Posted for Smokeball:

Day 1

We have driven around 700 miles and are spending the night a little west of St. Louis.

Late this afternoon my notebook quit working. :-(

This happened as we were approaching St. Louis. There is no way I could go days, much less weeks, without access to the web. Not just for browsing, mind you, but to take care of business. The trip has almost ended before it has gotten started.

I pulled into a Sams Wholesale Club and tried one of their lcd monitors and as I suspected the lcd screen on the notebook has crapped out. This happened once before during the 1st year of ownership and Sager replaced it. But even it they could repair / replace it again at a reasonable price that wouldn?t get me out of my current jam.

So ? I bought a 15? NEC Lcd Monitor. I would have just bought a new notebook but there would be no way to install some of my necessary programs on a new laptop with the program disks sitting back in Biloxi. :|

Carrying all of the stuff into the motel room has me feeling like I?m back in the 70s when I traveled cross-country with the entire trunk of my car loaded with an Apple //e, Monitor, Modem, Printer and Paper so I could continue to trade the stock and commodity markets. I was a real hi-tech red-neck back then. Ha LOL

Tomorrow we start traveling due West towards Denver. I?ll try to write more tomorrow night if possible. 😉

If someone would copy/paste this update to the AT Forums (maybe put it in my ?Smoke is on the Road? thread) I?d appreciate it. I?m using AOL while on the road so I have in effect banned myself. :Q 😛 😀

Thanks 🙂
