DC councilman: "We got to do something about these Asians"

i guess it's ok to attack any race other than black.
imagine if it were a white councilman that said "we got to do something about these blacks".

Washington D.C. Councilman Marion Barry is in hot water again — this time for insulting Asian-owned businesses in his poor, majority-black district.

The 76-year-old Democrat declared during his primary election victory rally on Tuesday, "We got to do something about these Asians coming in and opening up businesses and dirty shops."

He added, "They ought to go. I'm going to say that right now. But we need African-American businesspeople to take their places, too."

Critics, including Asian organizations, Mayor Vincent Gray and Council Chairman Kwame Brown, ripped Barry's remarks.

"I am deeply disappointed by Councilmember Barry's comment," Gray said in a statement. "There is no room in this wonderfully diverse city for comments that disparage anyone on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, disability or sexual orientation."

Barry — who served four terms as Washington mayor, including a six-month term in prison after being videotaped smoking crack cocaine in 1990 — apologized on Thursday.

"I want to express my deep apology for offending some members of the Asian community and the D.C. community," he told The Associated Press. "I have a solid record of relationships with the Asian community."

He said he was wrong to zero in on a particular group, insisting he was referring to vendors who don't sell healthy food or hire locals.

But Barry did not back down from a claim that some Asian-owned stores don't "respect" his constituents.

"Ward 8 residents are spending their hard-earned dollars in these stores because they are the only stores in the immediate neighborhoods; my constituents want respect, too," he said in a statement. "It is to these less-than-stellar Asian-American businessmen in Ward 8 that my remarks were directed."

On Affirmative action.. yes. Asians need to get a 1400 on a SAT (old scale) to get into a certain college, for example, while a white person needs to only get a 1200! Wtf is that!

Also, yes, Asians are mostly racist (but they won't hang or burn you for it).

Running your own convince type of store requires a lot of work and sacrifice, apparently few of Barry's constituents have what it takes to accomplish this. Here is some text from Barry,

"Ward 8 residents are spending their hard-earned dollars in these stores because they are the only stores in the immediate neighborhoods; my constituents want respect, too," he said in a statement. "It is to these less-than-stellar Asian-American businessmen in Ward 8 that my remarks were directed."

Maybe the crime rate and the retail theft from the "constituents" in Barry's area have driven away anyone BUT Asian store owners..

The Japanese actions against Chinese and Koreans during WW2 show Asians are just as capable of escalating prejudice to violence as anyone else.
