DBAN going very slow

I have a hard drive that developed some bad sectors. CHKDSK says "88 KB in bad sectors." and the repair function doesn't fix it. So I'm running DBAN to zero out the drive. It's going insanely slow... 500 kilobytes/s. I picked the quicket method, 1 pass and the remaining time is 400 hours.

Should it really being going this slow? Any way to actually fix the 88KB of bad sectors?

Still under warranty? I'd return any drive that had bad sectors given the chance.
Another option would be to run chkdsk with /f which does the surface scan and marks bad sectors to never be touched again so the bad stuff gets isolated.

Some times HDD sectors go bad and there is nothing you can do to recover them. CHKDSK should be marking them as bad so the system doesn't try to use them anymore and then move on. If you start running accorss allot of failing sectores on teh drive then its time for a new HDD.
