I am thinking about buying the Dazzle Creation Station 200 or 150 as a gift and wanted some thoughts on it.

The person that I am buying it for has an AMD Athlon 1.33ghz 266FSB, 256meg PC2100 Crucial Memory, 40gig Maxtor Diamond Max Plus with about 15gigs free, ATI Xpert 128 (16meg) video card, and WinXP Pro with USB 1.1.

The only thing he is going to use it for right now is taking his old BETAmax and camcorder home videos and putting them on DVD and CDs. I know he shouldn't have a problem but I have heard that the software that comes with it "MovieStar 5" has some compatability problems with WinXP. Does anyone know if this is true or if there are any other hidden problems with this product? All in all is this a good product and between the 150 and 200 which is better?

Thanks

My experience with some older Dazzle stuff (~1 year ago) was not good at all. The software, MovieStar, was absolutely awful and the quality was almost unrecognizable. Dazzle may have cleaned up some since then, but I vowed to never again touch one of their products.

Agreed. Stay clear of Dazzle. Avoid the Pinnacle Studio Deluxe as well. I would recommend the Canopus ADVC-1394 except for that is has a horrible bug with SP1 in XP. If you're using SP1, you can only capture once, then you have to power the PC off and back on for it to work again. It works so wonderfully without SP1 installed.

That said, I don't know what to recommend! I'm in the same boat myself. I kinda want to ditch the Canopus, but I don't know what to replace it with. I'm leaning toward the RT.X10.
