Dazed & Confused

When I posted my last topic, I was preparing to migrate to Linux (Mandrake 8.1). I had my books around me, a couple of gurus on speed dial, a good dose of intrepedity, and a bunch of courage. I felt that I was armed for a sucessful migration to a different OS.


....WRONG!!!


I had Mandrake on my system for about 2 weeks...no dual boot...just Linux. I am so friggin glad those two weeks are up. I have never felt so stupid in my life.

Linux, as well as any of the other Unix based OS's have a long way to go before becoming a viable desktop OS. Some people can sucessfully use Linux...but not me.

Does that mean I am stupid? ...maybe, ...maybe Unix users just have more patience.

Seen this problem before, turned out to be PEBKAC errors in the end.

...maybe it was simply a matter of me being to F'n stupid, I don't know.

I got sick and tired of having to be at a command prompt every time I wanted to install something (RPM's aren't what they are cracked up to be)

I could do most of my computing activities including:

web browsing
audio/visual
wasting time with games

I liked the ability to configure my interface the way I wanted, not what Bill decided I could have.

Maybe I picked the wrong distro? Maybe Mandrake is too complex for a retard like me? ...Redmond Linux?

I was disgusted with having to look every little thing up in a friggin' manual, call friend on the phone and have them call me "stupid", etc.

If I could ever get som REAL help, I could probably figure Linux out...better live to be 150 years old.

with all do respect, no offense intended...Linux is "geek" ware. It is not ment for some dumb cowboy from Wyoming like me, even if I do have a 3.8 GPA in Mechanical Engineering.

I guess I will be content with some $hitty Windows OS, let Bill Gates dominate my computing experience, and become just another member of the ignorant computer user herd.
