DayZ is the perfect running simulator game imho, I spend hours upon hours running through fields, towns, and more fields. And then I see zombies, they give me an incentive to run even more!
This is the best running simulator I could ever dream of! No other running simulator can hope to compete.

Do minecraft and you will never run out of running space plus they have creepers and those are 100x worse then boring old zombies.

Seriously though, why are people paying $30 for DayZ? It's been on Steam's top-seller list for the better part of a year now, and I can't wrap my head around why.

At one point, DayZ showed a lot of promise, and I had fun with it... two years ago.

I'm patiently waiting for them to update the standalone or improve it in such a way that it becomes better than the mod version, which is still completely free. But it doesn't look like they have.

Indeed. After playing it for 6 weeks I had my fill. Didn't feel like hunting other players to relieve the boredom, so there was no gameplay left.

I'm not spending any $ on it unless it comes out with some kind of gameplay that doesn't involve DM.

Because people have been looking for a good running simulator for ages. This game is a god-send for those of us who love running. It's especially good since I prefer a running simulator over running in real life.

It even lets you run during both day and night! What other running simulator lets you do that?

Indeed.
Why I was just playing it yesterday, I spent 3 hours running through desolate fields, towns, and roads with nothing but my thoughts to keep me company (no other running simulator could ever get running as accurately as that). Then finally when I felt like giving up, I saw this zombie running towards me. I could not understand what was the point of this running zombie in the simulator. I started running away from it, but it kept running after me. Then after an hour of running through fields, forests, and towns, the same zombie was still running behind me. Right then I realized the simple brilliance behind the zombies that the developer intended, he used them to prevent me from giving up running.
So after 5 hours, there I was still running, and now there were more than ten zombies behind me encouraging me to run even more.
I have to repeat myself, no running simulator could ever be as good.

This thread inspired me to buy the game, but it doesn't really seem as good as you guys are making out. Kind of boring really.

nah, the best Running Simulator is The Witcher 1. I ran for hours in that game.

I really like the realism, that when you don't drink regularly while running, you will eventually fall victim to dehydration.
And like a real marathon, you will always find those little wayside stations, where people are handing out drinks.
I just wish they'd also simulate your foot starting to get blisters, once you get into ultra-marathon territory.

This certainly sounds better than Elder Scrolls online running simulator, also known as Cyrodil. That one only lets you run for 10 minutes then hit a big mob, lag out and die. Then repeat.

I would amend the title to "Solo Running Simulator". Running, running, running, OH! Another person running? KILL IT. KILL IT! KILL IT NOW! Okay......where were we? Oh yeah. Running.....

If you break your leg it also doubles as the best crawling simulator

Indeed. I spent a couple hours one time crawling a few km to a Hospital to heal a broken leg. It was pretty dicey at times, but very satisfying once successful.
