Ack,

Last 2 days I've been trying to install a dual athlon setup. MSI K7DMaster, 2x MP1800+, 1Gb Samsung Reg. ECC DDR SDRAM, MSI GF4 MX440 64Mb, 2x3Com 10/100 NIC, NEC USB2 card, 2x Maxtor D740X 40Gb, DVD drive.

Most stuff was something I had laying around. Bought a new case and a 420W PSU though. So, I install everything and press the power button... fans spin for around 2secs, and then nothing. Damn. Diagnostic leds show it's a problem w. the VGA card. Ok, try with old PCI VGA card... same thing. BUY a new AGP card. Now fans spinn about 2,5secs. Now leds show its a prob with BIOS... WHAT! Clear CMOS. Again it stops at new message.

So, I've tried pretty much everything possible over past 2 days and changed EVERYTHING. I though I'd give up on it, and as I was taking it away from the case I notice the PSU connector had 2 wires that had slightly "popped out" of the 20pin connector. :| Press them back firmly, and voila! Now it boots like charm...

I'm glad it works, just these kind of (non)problems make me absolutely mad. I didn't even think of checking all the wires in the PSU connector. I did check the connector was firmly in place, but...

Well, anyways there is a new bad boy crunching for the TeAm! 🙂

EDIT: It's now in original config (as above), and all stuff works just fine. Even the AGP card the leds informed to be bad... actually really strange how changing the HW made me get different signals. And all just cause of 2 loose wires???

Yep, loose PS wires in the ATX power connector isn't something I would have checked for right off the bat. Especially considering that it was a new PSU.

Glad you got it working, even though it was probably a frustrating experience. 🙂

Remember, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. 😉🙂

lol OD😉

Must admit I haven't seen that one either ,I have had an ATX plug go bad on me & giving an intermittent reboot problem. That took weeks to pin down! ,wasn't til I noticed the plug had charred brown (thanks to Wiz I think for checking that 1)that I realised what was going on!.Closing the terminals up a little soon fixed that😉

The very first 8086 that I built (more years ago than I really care to remember) came to me with the same problem ...

M<ark ...😉

BTW you look good in RED

rule 1 in networking that I've adopted in overall life. check the wires FIRST...then CHECK THEM AGAIN!

glad you got it running 🙂.
