I was in my local computer shop down the street, and they wanted $50 to install a HDD. Just install, nothing else. It takes what, 5min minutes max ?

Check out the prices Best Buy charges.

There are times where it is not a simple 5 minute task.

Mini-CDRWs. Also, they reserve the right to charge you more if it takes longer.

Yeah, but for Best Buy employees, anything is a complex task.

Somebody's got to pay for the store space/availability. If you don't have a store space then you shouldn't be able to charge that much.

Well, if you can provide better service then you can charge as much as you want as long as people are willing to pay you. If BB charges $50 but screws up everthing in the process why shouldn't you be able to charge the same $50 and do a top notch job? I don't care if you don't have a storefront it is all about comparative value.

The question is how much would you charge? I feel bad charging people sometimes but I've been doing better and charging them more.

How much would a fair value be to come pick someones computer up from their house (15 mile range) and do a tune up with spyware and updates and deliver it back in a couple days or sooner?

for the tune up, lol, i'd charge, say, $30 (about the price of over the counter software), plus gas maybe.

sometimes I like to inform my friends how much computer places charge for these types of things. Too many times I've been at someones house for 3, 4, 5, or 6 hours at a time figuring out how the hell they did what they did to make their computer so fvcked up.

Most of the time it's clicking "yes" on some random popup. Even with 20 anti-virus/spyware/etc. installed they still find ways past my precautions.

actually taking their computer from their home, bringing it to you, and taking it back? hooking it all up again and everything... atleast $75-100. That's a lot of work.
