There are businesses that actually do 9-5? Almost every job I've had started at 7am or earlier.

lawyers, dentists, many doctors offices, there are several that do that. I work anwhere between 7 and 6(typically 8-5) for the most part.

Yeah, but most businesses don't open until at least 8. Call centers rarely start before 8 (often 9), most retail is 8.

They keep their time internally unless they acquire a new tower signal. To update the time you either need to drive far enough for it to switch cell towers or turn it off and on again to force it to re-acquire the tower. They only time synch with the towers when they first connect. Saves bandwidth.
