I refuse to change the clocks. Of course I am one of the rare areas that does not honor daylight savings time.

Doh... that means that I'm going to lose an hour of sleep while I'm out in the field this weekend.
And I'm only getting 5 hours a night anyways.
I'm sure my superiors are going to love watching me wake up all bleary eyed sunday morning.

Yeah, but you get an extra hour of daylight every night to do stuff outside!

You know...."outside".....the stuff that's on the other side of your front door?

Read further down in the link and you will come across:

<< Spelling & grammar

The official spelling is Daylight Saving Time, not Daylight SavingS Time.

Saving is used here as a verbal adjective (a participle). It modifies time and tells us more about its nature; namely, that it is characterized by the activity of saving daylight. It is a saving daylight kind of time. Similar examples would be dog walking time or book reading time. Since saving is a verb describing a single type of activity, the form is singular.

Nevertheless, many people feel the word savings (with an 's') flows more mellifluously off the tongue, and Daylight Savings Time is also in common usage, and can be found in dictionaries.

Part of the confusion is because the phrase Daylight Saving Time is inaccurate, since no daylight is actually saved. Daylight Shifting Time would be better, but it is not as politically desirable. In fact, scientifically misguided politicians sometimes misunderstand. In 1995, the British Time (Extra Daylight) Bill was introduced by John Butterfill, attempting the impossible -- to legislate extra daylight. The bill did not pass. >>

ROFL!

I hate being on the eastern edge of the Central time zone. We're practically in the Eastern time zone geographically, but because we're an hour behind it gets dark an hour sooner - so it makes Daylight savings time that much more meaningful here since I'll actually still have 2-3 hours of daylight left when I leave work at 5:00. Meanwhile, WAAAAAAAAY over in west Texas it's somehow still considered the Central time zone, yet there's still daylight until almost 9-10:00. I would've LOVED that as a kid although my friend from Dallas said it was frustrating be force to go to bed when the sun was still up. :D

I agree, ParrotHeader. I'm less that 25 miles away from the Eastern Time Zone, so DST is VERY important to me :(

Where DOES the time zone changeover in Florida? Being from Alabama I visit Florida quite a bit on beach trips, but rarely venture past Panama City which is still Central time zone. Is the crossover around Tallahassee?

You guys were the forgotten people during the whole Florida election mess. I remember pretty much all the major media outlets 'calling' the state of Florida as being a lock for Gore as soon as the polls closed in the EASTERN time zone portion of the state, even though a smaller, but still fairly signficant amount of people are in the Panhandle region in the Central time zone and had not yet finished voting or even gone to the polls yet.

Yeah, we get plenty of daylight in the summer since we're on the western edge of EST over here in Atlanta. Not like my hometown in Michigan tho....it's light in the middle of summer until 10pm or so. Used to drive me nuts as a kid when my parents would send me to be while it was still semi-light outside. ;)

Heh, I refused to switch my clocks back an hour, so I guess the rest of the world will be catching up with me this weekend.

It changes just east of Panama City, near the beach town of Mexico Beach.

I like the fact that it'll be light out later, and you'll actually be able to get things done outside after work.
