* DOD_Palermo map ? This new map is based on the popular "Salerno" map and combines the likes of Anzio with CS_Italy from Counter-Strike.
* Steam Commnuity integration ? Like Team Fortress 2, players will now be able to get the most out of the Steam Community. User profiles and pictures will be attached to player tags, individual statistics will be tracked and tied to your account, and more.
* Achievements ? 51 achievements have been added to the game, rewarding players for besting certain accomplishments such as Jack of All Trades, which requires you to get a kill with each of the five weapon archetypes in a single life.
* Freeze Cam ? Just like Team Fortress 2, upon death players will be greeted with the Freeze Cam, which zooms in and freezes on the player's killer, letting the player see where death came from and take a screenshot.

Kinda makes me want to boot up DOD:S again. It's nice to know Valve is adding these feature into older games as well. I'd love to see some of this stuff added to CS:S as well.

yeah this is great to hear. Free weekend from the 4th-6th as well for anyone with a steam account!

Yarrr, forgot to mention the free weekend (though they are keeping it kind of hidden).

The game is only $10...is it good stuff? Guess I'll find out this weekend but I haven't seen anyone review it yet. Are the servers all empty yet?

forgot to add that in there. Oh well.

DoD is pretty good. I used to play it quite a bit back when it first came out. But it couldn't drag me away from my CS:S addiction and I eventually stopped. I dunno how many people still play it but there must be a bunch.

I have been playing DoD semi-regularly since 2002 and as an average pubber I love the game, but it's not for everyone. Even for a quasi realistic WW2 shooter, there is a lot of arcade action and somewhat of a learning curve. A fun game, definitely worth the $10 but probably not as addicting as TF2

For me this game definitely has a steeper learning curve compared to most FPSs. I used to pwn at after playing a lot for a long period of time, but I fired up the DoD:S beta a couple weeks ago and got my ass kicked the entire time.
I gave up and went back to TF2 🙁

Once you get the hang of it, it is an excellent game.

It's only $10 these days? Easily worth that! I agree it is a bit tough to do well in, maybe more than average, but definitely doable with some practice. I don't have any tips really as I haven't played it much in the past couple of years. Though off hand I would recommend the Assault class (Thompson for Allies, MP40 for Axis) for a beginner. Well the Machine Gunner too but that can require you to know the map and routes in order to set up in a good spot. The BAR/heavy assault rifle class has a lot of recoil to get used to, and same with the Rifle class, so I'd not recommend them first. Sniper class is pretty easy to get used to if you are a decent sniper in other games, otherwise forget it. They are limited to 1 or 2 per team usually and a team is going to want to have their good snipers playing so it might be hard to learn the ropes with it.

$10....definitely worth it. I was in a DoD:S clan a couple of years ago and i can confirm there is a learning curve. If you don't mind investing some time and getting your ass kicked till you get the hang of it, go for it.
