Day of Defeat FPS drops

Hey guys check my sig for my specs...

My question was... I just got done playing some Day of Defeat on dod_flash and there were about 24 people in the server. I'm using 71.20b drivers for my 6800GT and when i was playing in 800x600 i was getting FPS drops.

I'm not sure exactly how good my hardware is meant to handle things, but i wans't happy seeing my FPS drop to 40 even 35 at one point. I was averaging 75-100 fps but is this normal for my FPS to drop this low for any reason?

Maybe i'm over rating my new rig and i'm not keeping in mind that a dod map with 24 people in the server isn't that easy to handle with what i have, especially when there's guns and gernades going off left and right. Along with some smoke lol

Suggestions PLEASE... it'll make me feel better if i get some responses where people have had similar experiences.

Thanks much,

Ayman

P.S. This might be to much of a general statement/question but i'd like some kind responses plz 😀

EDIT: Let me mention i got 150 fps with the source stress test with settings completely maxed out @ 1024x768 for some more info

The original Half-Life -- and its mods, such as Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat -- has some weird performance bugs, especially with a lot of the graphical add-ons that mods use (for instance, smoke grenades in CS). It really doesn't handle large environments or large numbers of players all that well.

I wouldn't really worry about it; just play something made in the last five years, ok? 😛
