I haven't had a chance to play DOD, but from what I've heard, it's pretty cool. I'l definitely check out the 3.0 release.

Para Gameplay - We are proud to add this into 3.0. The way this system works is
left up to the mapper. We allowed alot of flexability in the way to mix normal\para
gameplays now. Currently in our 3 para maps for 3.0 you will see some of the following.
Both teams will be 1 life round team, or when you die you wait for next round. You can win
by completing objectives which award more points, or wipe out the other team. Mappers can
change these settings and mix gameplays, with para 1 lifers vs. normal dod infinite life team.
The possibilities with the gameplay + objectives coding in 3.0 is endless.

Cutscenes - Maps that feature this will play a dramatic movie scene to show objectives, or set
the mood for the map. The 3 para maps featured in 3.0 have team specific joining cutscenes. Each team sees a different cutscene, and only 1 time when they first spawn up in the map. Clan matches can turn this feature off when mp_clan_match 1, and mp_clan_showcutscenes set to 0.

Removable Helmets - The new para player models feature this, we will work in the old models in future version(s). When a bullet strikes the helmet it will fly off, and the player will be without a helmet rest of round. Nearby grenade blasts can also blow a helmet off. Just a little fun addition.

New Spectator System - Incorporated HLTV features into ingame spectator system. Modes include: First person, Free\Locked chase cam, Map Free\Locked, Inset window views. Health of the player your spectating is also shown. HLTV features from 2.1 is shown on the maps as well, such as tnt, grenades thrown, objectives and their status, for the map views (inset\full map mode). Objectives status area is shown if no inset view is present as well.

Server Problem ...
Posted on Tuesday, July 9, 2002 by dodteam

We're going to delay the release of Day of Defeat 3.0 until we can fix a small problem with the server. We'll get this fixed and released as soon as we can. More information will be coming soon. Thanks for your patience.

This game would have been better (IHMO) if it wasn't class based. Too bad, but that's their decision and it turned me off even after getting good at it.

I agree to a certain extent. At times it feels like your limited in what you can do, which can get old. The problem is, without the classes certain weapons (ie sniper rifle) would be used way too much.

Why do you say that? I love that it is class based. More realistic, which is what the mod is about.

From what I've seen on the DOD message boards, there is a server side bug that causes the game to crash after cylcing through more than two maps.... or something like that. I guess we just gotta keep waiting.... =(

FYI, there's a leaked version already out. Obviously it's not final final code, but there's already a fair few servers using it.

I've decided to be patient and wait though :)

Am I the only person who thinks DoD is horrible? Pathing, netcode, modling, texturing etc is all amateur, after about 5 years of existance...

Fill me in why is this better the say, RTCW?? I'm not being smart but to me RTCW is the cream of the crop when it comes to multiplayer FPS. Maybe I'll give DOD a try though and see what I'm missing.

Class based mods basically turn me off completely. Don't get me wrong, there are places where having classes is nice. I just hate it when I'm a grunt, and a close machine gunner dies, and his weapon is 10x more important than mine at the time. With the class game, I cannot drop my gun and use his at all (can't even drop my weapon). Its very useful, in a non-class based game to be able to use any weapon that is around. Counter-Strike makes this fun, use the right weapon at the right time.

I'm not slamming DOD over this, but its something that turns me off, quickly. I'll d/l and install DoD, but that doesn't last much more than 2-3 days.
