I still have a Tivo series 2 80 hour box w/ lifetime service contract, and it's going strong for the most part. I thought it was dying a few years ago (it was locking up every few months), but it's only frozen once the past 2-3- years. It doesn't do high-def, but for what I use it for I don't need HD.

And yes - I do dread the day it finally goes out for good.

Most likely thing to break is the hdd. You can prepare a backup hdd beforehand and pop it in when your hdd finally goes. Need to do it beforehand while TiVo hdd still functions though.

<---- On his 3rd hdd in his series 2 TiVo with lifetime contract.

I didn't even know that was possible. How do you do that?

Torrents are fail.

Try Sickbeard + SABNZBd. Of course, then you'd have to subscribe to a usenet provider and you're probably trying to get away with paying nothing, but it's WELL worth the $11/mo.

I'm going to have to look at that when I get home, don't want to visit while i'm at work. What are the details? I've had a giganews account for about 8 years now.

I know torrents can be tracked but I'm not doing anything too crazy with them. But I am semi-interested in newsgroups since you're the 2nd person this month to tell me that it's worthwhile... I'm just behind the times and free has been good to me. What's a good newsgroup server to sub to? You know, not just tv goods.

I don't know the last time I watched a live TV shows...FU commercials!!

Except some...I like those state farm insurance ones. Commercials should be more localized to your city.

Look into how newsgroups work. The provider you subscribe to has absolutely nothing to do with what you have access to other than for how old of a file you can access. I currently use supernews but if you don't download and absolute ton getting a block of data on Terabyte Tuesday from newgroupdirect can save money.
