Also, I'd like to say I really hate those annoying pop-open windows for images, they are becoming WAY too common on websites these days, and all they serve to do is slow downloads.

Having said all that, this looks like they pushed up the graphics and didnt worry a damn about the gameplay.
A console lovers wet dream. Hooray. I bet they charge 65 bucks for it.

Are you a moron? The Dawn of War series already has some of the best RTS gameplay and certainly the best RTS storyline on the market (due to its epic background thanks to its tabletop origins). Even if this game is purely a graphics update for the original DoW, I'd be happy to shell out $60 for it

People are saying that SC2 will wreck DoW2's sales, but I don't see how that can be possible; the games are different enough that those of us who already love both games are going to buy both games. SC2 could only possibly eat into DoW2's sales if they're released in the same month.

And I don't even know where that console lovers comment comes from, it's being developed exclusively for Windows PC (like the rest of the series)

Well, Starcraft 2 is likely to crush all RTS games the year it comes out, not just DOW2. Just that DOW2 and Starcraft 2 borrow from similar source material.

Whether it beats it in sales or not, I highly doubt SC2 will be anywhere near as good as DoW2.

Most of SC2's sales will come from those people that thought SC1 was great. Just look at C&C3, I bought it because Im a huge C&C fan and in my opinion it was a terrible game.

I was never a big fan of SC probably as I picked it up probably around 2002, along with Diablo1. I enjoyed it but I think the "magic" had wore off.

I will be picking up a copy of DoW2 and SC2 money willling when they are released. If I only had the money to buy one, it would go to DoW2.

You might be right, but honestly there's yet to be a blizzard game that wasn't at least decent.
Relic's been on a real kick with RTS games though for a while, they've been getting better and better every year.
Even still, # of people who played starcraft and thought it was great > number of people who have heard of 40K and are RTS gamers.

But if you'll notice, Elcs was talking purely about the quality of game, "whether it(SC2) beats it(DoW2) in sales or not, I highly doubt SC2 will be anywhere near as good as DoW2"

I think SC2 is being set up to suck. People have HUGE expectations for that game. By comparison, DoW has practically flown under the radar despite having a huge following (you just can't argue it though, SC has the biggest RTS fanbase)

I'm more likely to buy DoW2 than SC2 to be frank. ~_~

A potential prediction for SC2 could be one of that similar to HL2. The hype built up around it by fans, review sites creates a massive amount of sales and the final outcome is "underwhelming" because it cannot live up to the hype.

For comparison, Command & Conquer was huge because it was the first mainstream RTS for the masses. Dune 2 laid the foundations and Westwood made a huge leap in creating C&C. It in itself ( a 1995/1996 game) still has a following throughout a rather large series. There was no hype beforehand to laud it the next best thing single sliced bread nor anything really to compare it to.

SC2 is joining a long list of similar RTS games and joining at a time where RTSes are changing and creating different variations of basic concepts to create new games and almost like their own sub-genres. Its competition is no longer just C&C and TA...

I do not doubt that it will be one of the biggest selling games of the year of its release and I think it will be a good game but nothing beyond that.

That said, if both games, DoW2 and SC2 are purely given a face lift only, Id pick DoW2 too.

StarCraft 2 is going to kill this game's sales so badly it's not even funny. They would be wise to release it before/ late after SC2
Considering that Starcraft is essentially a rip-off of the Warhammer 40k universe, it will be interesting to see how these two games face off against one another.

Starcraft obviously deserves credit for being a revolutionary RTS when it came out...Dawn of War was revolutionary in its own right, as it took the common RTS formula, twisted it on its head, and provided a more compelling and immersive gaming experience.

I honestly think Dawn of War 2 has the potential to be a better game than Starcraft 2...it appears that Blizzard went the safe route with their game design, and essentially rebuilt the original Starcraft experience with a shiny new engine and some new units.

Will be interesting to see what Relic does with DoW2...especially how they will incorporate some of the gameplay elements introduced by Company of Heroes and the expansions to the original DoW.

I think the markets are almost independent of each other. People who really like RTS games will get both. DoW has a bigger standing than SC, excepting Korea, of course.

Starcraft sold 9 million copies with about half of them being sold in Korea. So that's still about 4.5 million for everywhere else except Korea. How well did DoW sell? I prefer DoW, but I doubt it has a bigger following.

SC2> DOW2 for me. i prefer the general feel of SC over DOW, and all the user made maps help as well :)

Well, that's fine for you. Either way, I don't really care, because the sci-fi RTS is all rubbish to me. Maybe both will be stellar.

I think that this game is going to be released in 2009 though. I don't think THQ wants to risk it. Pretty sure I read that somewheres.

And a new storyline. That's the only reason I'll be buying SC2 :p

And it's the reason I've loved every DoW game - there is a deep, immersive story that can easily suck you in. Even Soulstorm, which at first glance appears to have very little story, is actually full of the stuff. Every territory contains a story (under the Archive button). Every time you destroy a race, there's a nice description of the aftermath. Every time you beat the campaign, you get a neat movie :p It's especially interesting to see the reasoning behind the Sisters of Battle fighting the Space Marines and the Imperial Guard. Sure, it's not as great of an experience as the original DoW or even its expansion Winter Assault, but it's still pretty cool!

So yeah, based on the fact that the Dawn of War series contains a significantly better backstory, I'm going to assume that I'll prefer DoW2

Hehe, yeah, well apparently my collection reflects that: I don't have a single Sci-Fi game, not counting Deus Ex, if you want to call it that.

Well...I have Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. :p
