Basically i have a couple of problems

I'm playing and I have taken pains to capture every shrine/foundry/relay and defended/taken out every Tyranid boss but it seems sort of futile. I take them out in 3 days and after killing them they pop up again. I've probably done 90+ missions at this point, all my squads are lvl20, even the one I don't use and I haven't even gotten to Angel Forge part 2 yet to get my terminator armor.

Is defending the areas or taking out the Tyranids terrorizing the planets worth it or changes any game play besides the invulnerability ring and artillery? I''m tired of taking care of all the 3 day limit missions only to have so many more pope up immediately.

After finishing Angel Forge part 1, my tactical squad stayed behind on Merdian. When do I get them back? I wouldn't care so much, their DPS is absolute crap, but they took my artillery, healing and defense turret accessories. That healing one is sort of a big deal.

Wow, I finished in something like 20 missions IIRC. At the very end, I only had 3 squads leveled to 20, one was 14 or 16.

Easy answer, ignore them until the last minute. Letting the mission expire will only result in loss of the bonus that building gave you, though there are minor non game altering dialog that will pop up depending on your choices. I never let one expire but had no where near as many missions as you. One tip is that traveling to other planets doesn't use up a turn.

And I forget when you get your tactical squad back, but it's on the same planet as you may have guessed.

They changed the campaign?

I sort of assumed it'd be the same old Dark Crusade / Soulstorm style campaign, but it sounds like that's not the case. (I have an ever growing backlog of games I need to finish, so I never managed to get in on the GoGamer deal before they ran out).

after the angel forge part 1, just go back to play angel forge part 2 and your tactical squad will be back. And i don't think defense mission will ever end. i tried to finish all of them, but it is getting way too repetitive, so i just finished the core mission and beat the game.

You're right, it is futile. That's their purpose, actually. The defend/assassinate missions repopulate endlessly, and only exist so you can get any piece of loot you're missing and to get every squad fully leveled up for the big final mission.

Once you get bored of doing those missions, feel free to advance the main storyline. You've only got a few missions left until it's all over. :)

The way it works is that its supposed to mimic the Tyranid invasion. As you start off, you mostly do storyline advancing missions that are pretty specific. Then you start seeing some optional missions against generic bosses, which typically give you a new piece of War Gear. Those bosses may also drop a nice piece of War Gear. Once you reach the end of a particular story string of any race, there's an "end boss" type encounter with a non-generic boss, which are typically the hardest fights in the the campaign.

During those missions, you're constantly capturing strategic points and they give you more uses for those specific use abilities on those planets, up to a limit of 4-5 I believe. Your performance on some missions, perhaps the first for that day, determines how many more "free" drops you get that day before the day cycles and you lose 1 drop day for the other missions on your planetary map. The thing that makes this cycle increasingly difficult and futile is that it becomes harder to get 2 additional drops as more days pass. Also you'll eventually get to the point that there aren't any items left, no more optional missions, and you're just defending the last few strategic points per mission. Your squad leads should all be L20 far before you get to that point.
