So I bought Dark Crusade yesterday at Fry's and I haven't opened it yet. I want to open it but I'm not sure about how the multiplayer works yet. My friend has the first DOW and its expansion but doesn't have Dark Crusade. Is it possible for me to play against him with my Dark Crusade?

Thanks in advance!

Yur waayyy ahead of me.
I didnt know anything called Dark Crusade existed. Must investigate.

I'M BACK!

Looks pretty sweet. Though based on all the descriptions it seems the Multiplayer isnt different from the other expansion pack or core game.
Based on what I have seen in every other video game: No, your friend can not play something he doesnt have. He will need to buy the expansion too.

There used to be a time when you could do MP installs of games and not need 1 disc per person, but I think those days may be gone.

Bump!

29 days remaining

(24-style countdown)

1:40:57 AM

1:40:58 AM

1:40:59 AM

1:41:00 AM

(I know it would make much more sense to count down as it is approaching the next hour but I don't have time to wait 20 minutes! I got school in 4 more hours!)

i don't think it is, possible since he would be lacking the data from Dark Crusade. if it were the other way around (he had DOW + all xpacks) and you only had dark crusade, THEN it would work i think.

also, DOW *should* play without the cd. mine does and i didn't install a no-cd patch. i think gamespy also noted that in their review, no cd required.

The 1.5x patch eliminated the need for the CD, I believe. I can't comment on the multiplayer question though, since I haven't bought DC yet, and I probably wouldn't be able to play online anyway. With Winter Assault, there were two distinct online modes for the original and WA, but it's truly confusing now.

All right, it looked to sweet to pass up.
Went to every mall and computer store in town (more than I originally thought). NOBODY has it. Every single copy was sold the day it came in. Only a few stores expect a second shipment of it.
Decided to order online. Its cheaper and more reliable these days.

Will install it immediately and then blast you bastards into space!

The way I understand it your friend can play the races which where in the first DoW+WA, while you can only play those in Dark Crusade, if you have all 3 games you can play all races in MP. So you should be able to play together, but you can only choose between two races and your friend between the other five. But you should be able to play against eachother.

I might be wrong though......

Dark Crusade is a stand alone, not an expansion. You don't need DoW or WA to play it and it has all the races from the previous games.

edit: doh I'm stupid... you can't access the races in multiplayer... I'll reinstall the other dow games to see if I can then play as all of them...

My question is...

Can I play Dark Crusade with someone that DOES NOT have Dark Crusade (i.e. DOW and WA)?

You must Have Dark Crusade to Play Dark Crusade. You Can Buy it on its own and Play as Tau and Necrons, and face all 7 Races (tau, necrons, orks, chaos, eldar, Imperial Guard and Space Marines)

If you own Dawn of War and Buy Dark Crusade, you have a total of 6 Races to play as (tau, necron, orks, chaos, eldar and space Marines) and can play against all 7 races (tau, necrons, orks, chaos, eldar, Imperial Guard and Space Marines)

Now, If you own Dawn of War & Winter Assualt and then Buy Dark Crusade you a total of 7 races to play as (au, necrons, orks, chaos, eldar, Imperial Guard and Space Marines) and can play against all 7 races (tau, necrons, orks, chaos, eldar, Imperial Guard and Space Marines).

There will be no seperate Lobbys for "different" versions of Dark Crusade refering to what other games you have, If you have Dark Crusade you play against all other Dark Crusade Players no matter what other games you or they own.

So...Some with Just Dark Crusade can Play as Tau/Necrons and can fight against someone with Dawn of War+Winter Assualt+Dark Crusade playing as Imperial Guard even though you can't play as them.

Confused yet? lol

Ah well, I already bought Winter Assault and another copy of Dark Crusade. Looks like I'm going to get all seven races, but I wanted to play my friend who doesn't have Dark Crusade or Winter Assault...:( :|

consider this though - regular DOW palyers wouldn't have access to newer units - so space marines wouldnt get the chaplain or grey nights, orks dont get flash gitz (and whatever else they got in WA, i never play them :p), eldar dont get fire dragons and the harlequin, and chaos dont get the demon prince and khorne berserkers

Yeah, I know. I wish they could like restrict units or something when you play against people that don't have something. :p
