Anyone know how accurate the 'auto configure' tool for Dawn of War 2's graphics settings is?
I have a Q9550, GTX 285 and 8gb of ddr2-1066 and it keeps putting me on medium texture detail and medium effects fidelity. Is it safe to step up to high or would that be a slideshow? I ran the performance test with them set to high and it said I could run it well with those settings, but the minimum framerate I got during the test was 2 point something. The highest was over 100 though. So I am a little confused. Anyone hit the sweet spot for settings? Thanks very much.

AMD X2 6000+, 4 Gb DDR, 512mb HD4870, Vista 64 - 1920x1080, everything Ultra/High.

Goes down to about 22 FPS at worst but it doesnt slideshow. AFAIK, anything above High can only be seen when you zoom in close.

Thanks Elcs. I wonder what's making it switch to med/low on some things. Did you manually set it to high and ultra? Most of the time Ultra is greyed out for me. And how come I got 2 fps at one point in the test? Something doesn't seem right with this.

Ultra is not accessible for anyone without a 64-bit OS. It really chews up the memory usage and I do mean REALLY. There is or was a command line to disable the limiter but its side effects to gaming (crashes more) was not worth it for a lot of users.

Ive often found those tests to be useless. Something like Furmark for testing my GPU out told me I had a min FPS of something like 2... which occured once within the first seconds of starting up... after that I had a solid FPS.

I would take it with a grain of salt, maximise your settings, play and reduce if necessary. Your rig should play it at max to near max settings without much hassle.

Ok. I ran it again and got 15 FPS minimum, so the test must be really off. Thanks for the advice.

EDIT: I also have a 64 bit OS and I don't have ultra available.

Is it windows 7? Maybe it's not picking it up correctly.

Anyhow, with your video card, you should be fine for maxing out settings.
