David Coverdale or Robert Plant?

I go with David Coverdale over Plant. Coverdale had an excellent rock voice which was very full bodied and a good falsetto, powerful rock voice. whereas Plant voice was too feminine and nasal . what do you guys think?

I think David Coverdale is a wannabe Robert Plant. I like Coverdale, but he tries to hard to be like Robert Plant.

thats the reason i started this thread...Coverdale was never a wannabe Plant, Plant started all this negative publicity becasue Coverdales music was a little similiar to Zep music. David Coverdale clearly has the better voice of the two....i always thought the weakest link on the Zeps was Robert Plant.

Well, from my experience, you're pretty much alone in that thought.

It has been said for ages that David Coverdale tries to imitate Robert Plant but that sort of shallow criticism from people was expected from people who can't see the class that eminates from this recordings, i think Robert Plant was envious of Coverdale's voice which is why he started b!tching about coverdale's voice to the whole world.I love the Zep, but as i said before i think the Zep songs would have sounded better with some other vocalist.

well i watched both of them live, but Robert Plant was very old when i saw him. It's ok if people didnt hear of Coverdale, but not knowing about Robert Plant is a shame.

I prefer Coverdale to Plant, though I like them both. I always thought that Coverdale styled his looks after Plant, but Coverdale was the better singer.

I just have one word for those that prefer Plant. "Honeydrippers"

Maybe, just maybe, looking exclusively at the voice of Coverdale and Plant, you can say Coverdale is better than Plant. But, if start looking at their songwriting skills, Plant is much better. Maybe he's not the best singer in the world, but he writes some of the finest songs in modern music.

Actually I like the cover of "Sea of Love" 🙂

Definitely, though I'd say "wrote," as in Zep and his first two solo albums. Newer stuff was much less consistent IMHO with only a few songs I'd label "great."

That sums it up for me too.

Robert Plant all the way.

Oh good Lord. This isn't even a contest. Plant's voice, in his prime, RULED. Coverdale had a great voice, too. But he was no Plant.

BTW, Plant only made those comments, like calling Coverdale "David Coverversion" when Dave was working with Jimmy Page.

At that point, Coverdale most certainly had superior vocal range, as Plant lost basically all of his high notes in the late 80's. That is something that just happens with age, some sooner than others.
If you can find Led Zeppelin's performance of Stairway To Heaven at the Atlantic Records anniversary show in the 80's, listening to Plant trying to sing the last high part of the song is painful.

This fact doesn't erase the HUGE body of work Plant did with Zeppelin, though. His is one of the most recognizable voices, ever.
There are a dozen singers that sound similar to Coverdale.

I think that David Coverdale has an excellent voice, HOWEVER, the first time that I heard him sing, I did a double take! .. I thought WHAT .. this guy is completely mimicking Robert Plant!!!

Led Zep is absolutely an icon!!! .. Robert Plant is an ICON, and he doesn't like that David Coverdale is riding on his coat tails .. Honestly, I always say that mimicry is the highest form of flattery, but David Coverdale needs to develop his own individuality!! He is an excellent artist that needs his own style, which would be completely successful, and original, not so obviously trying to rip off Robert Plant ..

There is NO ONE like Robert Plant, and there never will be!

"Rock On"

Cosmickarma .. I know that I have come across an old post, however, that being said, everyone has their own taste, and I do respect that!

As far as Robert Plant, and David Coverdale's blatantly, obvious, mimicry of Robert Plant is an utter disgrace!!!

Robert Plant in his youth couldn't be beat by anyone .. not anyone! I have had the good fortune to have seen most of these bands in their "Prime" .. and it was MAGNIFICENT!! Robert Plant's pitch was amazing back then, and no wannabe Robert Plant, like David Coverdale could even come close to Plant in his day!

I think any of us that do something in our lives that turns out great for us, might be resentful of someone else walking in years later, and instead of doing something great of their own individuality, copies what we have done .. mimics us .. we'd all be greatly "pissed" ..

When I first heard David Coverdale I was shocked at the blatant mimicry of Robert Plant! David can pull it off, because he is talented, but he should be out there as himself .. not as a Robert Plant "robot" ..

Led Zep .. all the way!!!

I just listened to the two of them back to back a couple of times. I never really thought of any similarities in the past; but I think I have to give the edge to Coverdale for voice. His voice is a bit better than Plant's. And, they're only 3 years apart in age; it's just as easy to make the claim that Plant was copying Coverdale. It's not like they're a generation apart.

That said, I think Zeppelin is overplayed on a lot of older rock stations; I think I'm more tired of them than I am of Whitesnake and Deep Purple. I started listening to Whitesnake shortly after they were formed - long before they were a mainstream band.

Like a drifter, I was born to walk alone... here I go again.

Whitesnake makes me lol. Zeppelin is golden.
