Instead of having my post lost in the other Copperfield topic, here's the video of his Flying skit - Text

Unfortunately, the link will expire after 25 downloads. So if someone can be kind enough to temporarily host the file for the next few days, it would be greatly appreciated.

Note, QT7 is required for playback.

edit - thanks aphex for the hosting

Yeah, I will say that he does not use camera tricks as I have been to one of his shows. I want to say its all done with wires, but the glass/plastic box is messing my theory up.

And he has also done it outdoors.

You can still use wires in some way I bet. I bet he could string wires across two buildings, then hang the wires from those wires.

Has he done it in a completely open feild?

Two separate situations. One where he flew away from outside at the ending of one of his shows. The other was an empty field with him sitting on a couch and making it float around.

In this skit is is suspended from the hips to the top. If you pay attention, the rings never actually cross over him, they just make it look like they do . Also inside the glass thing, the two wires fit on either side of the glass. Again when they're removing the top, they make sure to open it and slide away, rather than flop it open and behind the box.

Yeah, I noticed the ring thing, but I'm not sure I understand your box explanation. Ill have to look at it again. Also what about when he took the girl up? There is no way he could counter balence the weight with just his feet.

If you watch how they place the top on, you'll understand. Also notice how the top is about an inch too narrow on each side. The two wires suspending him come down between those slots. Also notice how they timely place someone on top of the glass while he's "walking" on it, so that the top doesn't come off.

And you'll notice that they turn the lights off for about a second (and there's a camera cut) before they do the girl thing. Obviously something was changed during that time.

At first I was excited at the thought that maybe he was pulling this off with something new and improved, but it's still just smoke, wires and theatrics.

I would imagine you would see wire marks on his sweater if there were wires... and how does he flip in the air without tangling the wires?

Does anyone know the song that is being played during this illusion?

Unfortunately it doesn't say the song name in the credits on the Illusion DVD. Let me find an old VHS copy of the Flying TV special to see if it's mentioned there.

I love magicians. Copperfield is okay, but he has a huge stage and stuff. I like watching David Blaine do street magic on TV shows. That guy is awesome... he does some extremely crazy stuff. I'd love to learn how to do that, but I'm sure it takes years and years of constant practice.

(I'm not talking about him hanging in that box and the ice block and whatever, but about the tricks he performs for people on the street (levitation, taking a head off a chicken, etc.))

Just checked my VHS copy, unfortunately I cut the credits. But based on the following years TV special, it didn't show the song names. So I doubt they showed it for the Flying special.

Well since I have the tapes out, I might as well convert them to VCD.
