Awww, c'mon Virginia isn't so bad. After all, I live in the state. ;)

Charlottesville should be a bit cheaper when it comes to living versus the Northern Virginia area where I'm from. Here, towhomes on my street are currently selling for $265 - $270K. 2 Bedroom apartments are in the range of $1,400 & up. I'm not too how the area will compare in prices with the area you currently live in. However, if Virginia is more expensive, hopefully, the company will adjust the salaries accordingly.

I do know one thing for sure, automotive insurance in Virginia is pretty cheap when compared to ther states. Currently, our gas prices range from $1.49 - $1.72 for 87 octane gasoline. Take everything into consideration. Where you're going to be located, you'll be about 4 -5 hours away from the Virginia beaches. You'll be about 1 hour away from the Shanandoah mountains and Skyline Drive. Plus, there are some lakes towards the south that are pretty popular and not too pricey when it comes to summer rentals.

Remember, your time here will only be as good as you make it. Hopefully, you make the best of it. Are you currently in the process of applying for citizenship? Or, is that not currently an option for you?

WOW its more expensive there than it is here in Orlando!!!!!

I am from Northeast TN orig. and the parts of Virginia I was close to were very nice.

My company relocated to Virginia three years ago. I was offered a pretty nice raise and they paid for the move, so my GF & I went. I actually liked it quite a bit, we were in the north so there was a lot to do and see in D.C. and all along the eastern seaboard. However, after about a year and a half I decided that it was more important to me to be around my family and friends, so we moved back here to Portland.

Still a great experience, though, and I don't regret moving there.

Damn! Here in Mid-Missouri you can rent a 3 bedroom/2 bath HOUSE on a private lot for that much! Hell I pay $375 for a small one bedroom HOUSE.

Aww c'mon, Virginia is a very nice state. I hate living in NOVA though, spent 5 years in Blacksburg and that was OK. If you like mountain biking there are TONS of places to go. Virginia is a very rural state outside of Nova. The mountains aren't huge, but they're bigger than those molehills in SW AZ, and the view is beautiful. Charlottesville area is nice.

Be thankful you are not moving to North Carolina

I used to live in N.Virginia (Herndon). It's not as nice as Montgomery County in MD but atleast its civilized, unlike NC :disgust:

LOL - Ft. Pickett sometimes has some cool stuff going in.
I used to live in Blackstone. They'd be practicing shelling or something, sounded pretty cool.

They had a movie theatre there at one time too (not sure if it's still there). Cheap moies, but tons of interruptions when they changed reels.

Pickett is pretty cool. :)
