I'd like to hear some opinions on dating a co-worker. I'm not in a situation (yet) that i would be dating a co-worker, but i'm wondering if it's a good idea or not. and what some other people had to say

I wouldn't recommend it.

I know too many people who have done that, then had a bad breakup, and one of them had to quit because being around the other was so awkward.

Very bad idea in most cases. However, in many situations, due to frequent contact, friendships, whatever, relationships can develop. If it does get beyond just an office romance however, you may want to either transfer or seek out another position.

I've done it but I can't recomended it. She got canned right before we broke up so that part wasn't so bad. The problem was since we saw each other all the time at work we just saw too much of each other. Familiarity breeds contempt which seemed to have been true in our case. Too many fights. Absolutely great girl but there was just no way it was working.

Its not only the relationship that could hiccup, its the fact that you'll be working near her. If your boss finds out (and he/she is bound to since news travels fast) then they may keep an eye on you and her and how often you visit her or she visits you, the impact on your work, your progress in the quality of your work etc.
There isnt any law that you cant date a coworker, just that there are complications that could arise because of it.
Im just saying this by keeping my own workplace in mind.

i'm also interested to know the opinions. regardless of the saying 'don't dip your pen in the company ink'...
