Dateline to Catch a Predator

First I'll say, the search function sucks.

I'm not sure about the whole thing with blurring faces and what not on TV, but I believe it goes to the tune of, you need to consent and need to receive some sort of consideration from the production.

I noticed out of the couple of episodes that only 1 "predator" 's face was blurred.

My thoughts are that NBC says to the "predator" , "look, we will pay your legal fees if you let us show your face"

That's like an offer that can't be refused, since I'd say the majority of these guys are lower class (some outliers of course).

As far as the show goes, it's a good idea, but I think that the host and NBC are both doing it for ratings. The host is on par with a jackass, he just sits and acts like a hardass.

The legal system should be focused on some sort of mandatory jail sentence with some legnthy rehabilitation process, preferably from the private sector.

Dateline rents the home, so the 'predators' are on Dateline's property.

The reason they don't blur the faces is because the broadcasting parent company is a "news agency" and they represent the show as a news program, thus they can broadcast things as they actually transpire. I'm all for the show and catching predators, but I get really annoyed with Chris Hanson, and I don't like the big scene they make when he finally announces who he is, and they have like 8 guys walk in with cameras, microphones etc

so how did the one guy get his face blurred?

I've seen all of them I think, and I don't remember any faces being blurred at all, other than the possibly the one where an old man brought his 6 or 8 year old son with him. I know they blurred out the son's face, but I can't remember if it was the father with a blurred face as well.

It's pretty obvious why they would blur the childs face at this time.

Adolecents and those that are charged, but not convicted will usually get blurred
