Dated I know...but good mod list for Oblivion?

Just started playing this game again after not really picking up on it before. Girlfriend started playing it on the HTPC and I was just really interested it and now want to start my own story on my main PC and have and Im LOVING it! Really dont see why I didnt before (maybe slow start?) but in either case, loving it now.

So, my question is...what are the essential mods I need? Im looking more for graphics mods as I know I can handle it. Also, are there any other mods I should know about? As far as gameplay goes Im really liking it and wouldnt want to see it changed much...but, I know there are a lot of graphical mods out there. Better textures, models, lighting etc...but in each category theres like 10000's of mods and I really am overwhelmed!

Anyone have a good list of essential graphical mods and some that may enhance the overall gameplay?

I know its an old game, but I couldnt really find anything good. I saw some tweak guides, but its all .ini file and shit...stuff that make it look a little better, but nothing thatll actually CHANGE stuff...

If someone can help me I would really appreciate it! Thanks guys and gals!

Yep, Qarl's and a LOD mod will do you fine for graphics.

Though, FCOM is the true oblivion experience (IMO).
FCOM is Frans, WarCry, Oscuro's, and Martigen's all merged.
It takes patience, though.

Undoubtedly the Unofficial Patch and the UI mod by DarN, can't recall correctly but I think it's called DarNified UI just like it is for Fallout 3, after that I would say Qarl's Textures Pack 3 and probably Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, get only those and I think already you're set for something nice.

FCOM is a pita to setup, but it's well worth it. Mods always were the best part of Oblivion, especially because they kept it from being a mediocre and mundane game.

As for the LOD textures, the best (and probably most video memory intensive) were the normal maps. The highest texture normal maps make the landscape absolutely stunning.

Unofficial Patch , DarNified UI , Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul
Which ones are these exactly ? I see there is several different versions.
I already downloaded the Qarls pack....which took 22 whole mins to do 😀

I just installed Oblivion, so I am guessing nothing is updated or patched yet and would like to get these packs working in the right order.

Slight tangent - I kind of wish there was a sticky for user approved mods of older games.

Games like HL, Morrowind, Oblivion, Freelancer etc

It would save a lot of pia searching around.

The other day I toyed around with reinstalling Morrowind:GotY but the thought of searching around for all of the classic old (and newer) mods and weeding through all of those endless lists made my head spin.

We had plenty of stickies before and people complained about them. After the big forum swap they got deleted or moved.
I miss stickies.

Is FCOM still being developed, and has anyone used both it and Qarls Pack 3 without overlapping? It's probably fine, just thought I'd check.

Did they ever release a non-beta version of FCOM? I am tempted to play through Oblivion and the expansion pack(s), have the GOTY edition on my shelf, but I was unsure if OOO or FCOM worked with all of the latest patches / content / expansions. I assume I want to use FCOM since it includes OOO, but is it "safe" since it is like version .9 beta?

Hmm the leveling system does suck - maybe I'd enjoy playing it through with a few mods..

Kobus Character Advancement System is worth a look. It essentially changes the game from "only use one type of skill so you get +5s to attributes every time you level up" to "use all of the skills you can as much as you can, because you now get a +1 in each attribute as skills increase with use." Want more strength? Do some hand-to-hand combat. Want more quickness? Run around a lot. Etc. It also makes it so that you no longer need to sleep to gain a level.

I suggest you get the Oblivion mod manager and wyre bash.
You have to be careful of the order you install and load mods, e.g. QTP3 and the unofficial patch...
Also, try illumination within revised optimised. And the natural environments and weather mods (there are rather a lot of them).

Yup this is pretty much was nGCD does. It also removes the 100 point cap (max is 200 due to int limit). [Also GCD was for morrowind]

Also: check out Auriel's Retreat... It's pretty simple, no real quests, but very pretty huge world to admire.
