Ford also plans to close factories in Ohio and Michigan as part of an effort to shave costs and improve profitability in the face of increasingly stiff competition.
How did the Edison factory, a top-quality plant building a best-selling product, fall so quickly? Part of the reason lies in a shift in the truck market. Competitors such as General Motors have been offering hefty cash rebates on full-size trucks, forcing Ford and DaimlerChrysler's Dodge unit to do the same.

Analysts have said incentives on large trucks are pulling customers away from small pickups. Ford's truck sales rose 9.4 percent last month because of a 26 percent jump in sales of its full-size F-Series pickup, according to a report by Merrill Lynch, the securities firm. Compact truck sales remain down for the year, off 6.1 percent, to 170,197, the report said.

Bush is a weasel. He promised the american public that if the tax cuts went through that they would be interested in Ford's light trucks.

It's Bush's fault that GM is offering their full sized trucks for dirt cheap? Sounds like competition for me.. if I had the choice between a Ranger and an F-150 for almost the same price I'd choose the 150, just like probably everyone else.

It's Bush's fault the economy is in the dumpster ready to be hauled to the land fill and buried, so people aren't buying big ticket items (other than homes), so big ticket item manufacturers can't sell their big ticket items.

What is Bush going to do, other than propose tax cuts targeted primarily at upper income Americans, to revive the economy he has been in charge of for 32 months 13 days?

Great link Zebo.

I hope everyone gets a chance to read it and compare prices. It seems Iraq is the land of $500 toilet seats come true.

Don't forget the Atlanta Airport Taurus plant. They are planning on closing it as well. :(

The smart thing to do would convert these plants to producing Electric/Gas hybrids, but no we'll just let Japan produce those and ship them here.
