Database reporting tool?

Is there any software that can report on a database (something like crystal reports) and generate a professional looking report on whichever tables and records you specify? i.e. the report is customizable to present whatever information you like in whatever format you desire?

This is not something I?d want to run on sql server or oracle? I?d ideally like to use a copy of the database or an xml export and generate a report from this rather than the live data.

I 2nd your inquiry!

I'd like to find something other than Crystal Reports too.

It's just too dang hard to use. Fine once you get on top of it, but then the person with the training leaves, & you suffer all over again getting the next person up to speed on it. Want something simple, clean, easy.
