I just got a new computer and I wanted to find out how o/cable my Barton 2800+ is. I remember seeing a website that had a database of all the AXP production codes (I've got an AXDA2800KV4D AQ2FA code CPU). Anyone know what I'm talking about? Here's the specs of my new computer to give you an idea what I have to work with:
Asus A7N8X mobo
Athlon XP 2800+ Barton w/Thermaltake Volcano 7+ heatsink/fan
ATI Radeon 9600 All-in-Wonder Pro 128MB
1GB (2x512MB) Geil PC3500 DDR RAM
Western Digital 160GB SE 8MB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
IBM Deskstar 45GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
Pioneer 4x +/-R 2.4x+/2x - DVD burner
Liteon 16x DVD-rom
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 PCI sound card
Aspire full ATX case w/420W PSU & 2 case fans

I've got 2 thermal pastes I could use, one came with my memory, believe it or not... it's a Geil 5% silver 5% copper thermal paste with a thermal conductivity of >1.729 w/m -k and a thermal resistance of <.06 degrees C-in^2/w. I've also got some Antec silver thermal compound w/ thermal conductivity >9.0 W/m degrees K thermal resistance <.0024 degrees C-in^2/W which claimes to lower CPU temperature by as much as 15 degrees C. Which of the two should I use and is there anything special I should do to ensure a maximum o/c out of my CPU?

Looks like a great system. I would ditch the vocano 7+ though and get an slk-800 or -900, or any thermalright heatsink for that matter.
I'd use the arctic silver.
When you first put it together run Memtest86 off a boot disc or floppy before you install the operating system to make sure the geil is okay. After you get windows in there run prime 95 with the system still at stock and try out a few games. If everything's working well start overclocking.

Don't you mean AXDA2800DKV4D? :D Never heard of a AQ2FA... maybe those are the new locked ones.

Oh, Pelikan, he said Antec silver thermal compound, not Arctic Silver thermal compound :D

I'd invest in some Arctic Silver 5 though... wouldn't mess around with those "cheap" ones.

I highly recommend GE Type-44 thermal paste over all others...and I've tried a lot of them. It's more stable than a lot of other compounds and is military spec :).
