Database for UPC codes to DVD items?

Thinking of a new project to work on but in order for it to work correctly, I need to query against an existing database. Basically I need to be able to pull images of the dvd cover along with year, title, and a few other things. You know how you go on half.com and you search by UPC? where do they get all the information for the UPC codes?

just want to get the words out there for interested individual to join the project...
