Data usage for Google Maps?

Anyone have any idea on how much data Google Maps uses? Let's say something like a total of 20-30 minutes per day or less.

I'm going to Italy with my family in a few weeks and I've been asked to bring my iPhone in case we need the 3G access for maps or some quick Googling. There are some pretty significant price differences between the different tiers of AT&T's international data plan, so I'd like to get an idea of how much data I'm going to use so I don't buy too much or too little.

I think it's negligible unless you are zoomed all the way in using street view or if you have the satellite layer turned on all the time...

This. You may have to jailbreak and unlock though. Which may be a hassle.

Already Jailbroken. Also, I did research into getting a local sim (including asking my cousin, who lives there) and I didn't find anything that wasn't any cheaper/easier than AT&T.

Also, I should mention that I need to maintain my US phone number in case of emergency (family issues going on at home).

Why don't you just get one of those maps that is preloaded with all the maps on a microSD card and uses no data?

Like Garmin mobile, etc.

pretty sure last time i went on a trip using google navigation it hit me for ~20MB or so an hour, just doing navigation...but its been a couple of months so im not sure. i know it used a little more than pandora for me, which is something like 12 - 15MB/hr

I had Google Maps on today for about 1/2 hour while driving around, and used around 200k of data. I think satellite veiw can chew through a bit of data, but if you just use Google Maps, you're not looking at too much data at all. Just install Netcounter and you can see for yourself before you leave.

Since the plan is prorated and I'm only going for two weeks I think I'm just going to get the 50mb to be safe. You never know, right?

Thanks for help guys!
