Data transfer with Crossover cable???

What would be the easiest way to transfer files between my desktop and my notebook? I heard of a program called "Laplink" but know little about it. What do you fellows do?

Most of us use a network for file transfers. Laplink will work, but a network is more versatile. If you are willing to spend a little extra money, get a network card for your pc and for your notebook and connect them with a crossover cable. If you need any help with the configuration you are already in the right place

The only drawback to this is that PCMCIA (PC Card) network cards are expensive , but in the end it's still probably worth it for the added speed and flexibility.

Thanks for the reply. Well I have a ethernet card in my desktop and also a ethernet card in my notebook. I just picked up a crossover cable and gave it a try, with no success! hehe I think this will work its just I have no clue what has to be set up in order for the two to see one another. Any advice would be super as I could really use some advice! hehe Thanks guys....

Thanks guys. I played with it today and had some success. Someone told me to install "NetBEUI" in Network configuration on both computers. Not sure what the heck that is but when I did so it was able to see the computers and I was then able to do some file transfers.
