I had no idea Canada supplies nearly as much as the total amount supplied by Persian Gulf countries.

This is oil we import, not how much each country produces.

Yep, them and Mexico! Regardless of how many socialists they elect, they will never be another Saudi Arabia. ;) There is much to be said about having politically stable trading partners.

Delve a little deeper into the site. If it came down to taking it over for just oil production why not take over Venezuela, Iran, or Saudi Arabia? If you look at this link these countries provide far more barrels of oil per day.

I have said it before: Canada is one of the largest oil producers in the world. Canada's total oil reserves is more than all the middle-east countries combined.

That is flawed logic. Iraq doesn't produce much oil because it is prohibited from selling most of it (save for a small amount for humanitarian needs) by UN resolutions.

That is true, but much of Canada's oil reserves can not be exploited until the technology to do so is developed.

It is true that a huge amount of oil is tied up in the Alberta Oil Sands.

Canada still has vast reserves elsewhere though.

does any tech exist to extract that and its just too costly right now or is there no tech at all?

Exactly, all these numbers will change once Operation: Big Easy is over. "Russia, France what contract? Your terms died with the regime. The newly elected government of Iraq prefers to sell to those who helped us"

The technology exists for getting the oil out of the Oil Sands. The problem is that it is very expensive. 2 companies have tried. Not sure if they gave up.

this chart doesnt say anything about where the oil is extracted from the ground. Hell even Germany is on that list - we dont have resources let alone a drop of oil....

My aunt got her doctorate in physical chem. Her doctoral thesis was on the feasibility of using foams to separate the oil from the sand.

Heh, she says she got her Ph.D in bubbles :)
