My dads hard drive in his computer is dying....this is the first time I was able to get the system to boot up into my windows with out the computer crashing...The problem is that In dos i can see the files and can even copy them to my thumb drive fine in dos, but in windows I cant even access the drive, It says it need to be reformated. I dont want to reformat the drive my dad, i still need some documents off it....anyway to make win xp see the drive? or a way around the locked my documents folder with another OS?

thanks

You can take the drive out and put it in another machine and try to read it. You may have to take ownership of the files to see them. Do a search for Ownership in XP and it will show you how to take ownership of a file.

Although if Windows is saying the drive is not formatted, chances are it's too far gone to save anything.
