had 2 hitachi 250gig on a raid stripe for 500 total gigs.

One drive died, and then i shipped to a company to fix the drive, and back up my data.

The problem is they have to change the platter or something inside which the work will cost $1800.

Does anyone know a company, or someone who has the equipment that can restore the data?

zing! so true. could have bought 2 more drives for RAID backup for less than the data recovery will cost.

Yeah, this type of work is EXPENSIVE!!! Never do a RAID0 for any kind of long-term storage. Just a quick storage drive, say video editing for example. Do RAID1 at minimum and RAID5 if you're serious about your data.
